BEAM EXPANDER

The laser beam, which comes from the laser source, normally
has a diameter of 4 – 20 mm depending on laser performance.
With some systems, it makes sense to use a beam expander.
This is the case with the laser robot ROBOCUT or the scanner
system FLACS.SCAN, for example. The beam expander ensures
that the laser beam can be focussed better due to the optical
conditions. In other words, a beam of 6 mm to 12 mm, for exam-
ple, is expanded and thus achieves through the focus lens a
much better spot which then leads to a higher beam energy
density and a better cutting quality and speed.
